HistoryThe dutch had preserved old organs and built new ones for their church. Organists presented public recitals, playing variations and improvisations of popular songs for the pleasure of their listeners. Although the Dutch had submitted to British rule they retained their religion, language, customs, and culture, including their psalmody and vernacular music.
